Kure Beach Stormwater Infiltration Feasibility Study

Kure Beach, North Carolina

In 2019 LDSI was hired by the Town of Kure Beach to assist with a Clean Water Management Trust Fund Planning Grant. LDSI analyzed the feasibility of installing stormwater infiltration at outfalls E, F, G, H, I, & J. For the project, LDSI identified the feasibility of stormwater infiltration systems at alternative locations such as between dunes and at the end of the beach access parking areas; developed a typical infiltration schematic, monitoring plan, and cost opinions for installation of the infiltration systems; and compiled a list of funding sources.

The team analyzed site conditions, soils data, ground water data, water quality data, topographic information, and recommended alternatives at each site. After analysis, all six outfall locations were deemed feasible for installation of stormwater infiltration systems. A multi-criteria design matrix was created, and it was determined that some sites were more feasible than others. The Town has since used the feasibility study to determine whether to pursue any of the alternatives presented.
